Older movies - Now that VHS has been converted to DVD format, will the quality be any better than the original source?

No. Please keep in mind that older movies were only available in VHS at that time and its quality cannot be greater than the original even though has been converted to DVD.

Same Source - Do different vendors have better quality?

No. All of the original Thai Lakorns come from the same SOURCE; therefore, every seller has the same picture quality, unless the Lakorns had been recorded by them off of VHS.

Newer movies have much better picture and sound quality than older movies.

A DVDR can fit 4.7G of data, it usually can fit 2-3 episodes without having to compress it or lower its original quality. Fewer episodes than this per disc does not mean better quality.

All mainstream DVD players should be compatible DVDR.
